A new tunnel that connects the Bakki industrial site to the Húsavík harbor will open this weekend. Work on the tunnel started in 2012 and construction started in March 2016. The tunnel will be open for the public on Saturday and Sunday.
After an opening ceremony, guests will get the chance to walk through the 943 meter long tunnel. The tunnel will be open for walking traffic from 10.00 to 14.00 both days and for driving traffic from 14.00 to 18.00. After the weekend, the tunnel will only be open to industry traffic connected to PCC, and later to other companies that set up production on the Bakki industrial site.
