Workers have been busy for the last 24 hours to finish work on the new tunnel connecting Húsavík and Akureyr, that are now open to traffic. The tunnel is open and will be free of charge until 2 January, when they will officially open. This is good news for Christmas shoppers on both sides of the tunnel, as the road over Víkurskarð mountain pass has often been closed due to bad weather at this time of year.
