The number of unemployed people living in the Norðurþing municipality has risen from 59 at the start of last year to 72 people at the start of this year. That is an 4,1% unemployment. The national unemployment in Iceland is at 3,5%.
Young people in the region seem to be more affected by this, as there are 16 people in the age group 25 to 29 without work. People in retail and tourism also seem to be affected more than people from other industries.
Of the 72 people listed as unemployed, 42 have been seeking jobs for less than six months, while 12 have been listed for more than a year. Of the 19 nationalities of this group, 40 are Icelandic citizens while 15 are Polish citizens. Theses numbers were published by Framsýn Union.
