Húsavík is set to become a hub for ocean storytelling this week as the Trees & Seas Film Festival (TSFF) brings screenings, discussions, and community events to the Húsavík Whale Museum. The festival runs from 20–22 September and is hosted locally by the Whale Museum in partnership with the marine conservation group Ocean Missions. Admission is free to all events.
The Trees & Seas Film Festival is an international initiative that combines film, science, and community engagement to highlight the challenges and solutions for our planet’s oceans and forests. The global festival is held in multiple locations, with Húsavík serving as one of its northernmost venues.
The local program features three days of screenings:
20 September:
The Last Dive (15:30) and Yo Vivo Aquí (17:15)
21 September:
Salmon Secrets (15:00), El Pulmo (16:10), and The House by the Sea (17:10)
22 September:
Cleanup Sayu (16:00), Mauri Moana (16:30), and Drowning (17:10)
In addition to films, the festival offers space for conversations on marine protection and sustainable futures, with local scientists, conservationists, and filmmakers engaging the audience.
By hosting the festival, the Whale Museum and Ocean Missions continue their mission of raising awareness about marine conservation from Húsavík to the world.
