RÚV to broadcast Skálmöld’s Arctic Henge concert on Saturday Night

This Saturday evening, Iceland’s National TV RÚV will air a concert film and behind-the-scenes documentary from one of the most memorable cultural events ever held in Northeast Iceland: Skálmöld’s performance at the Arctic Henge in Raufarhöfn.

The Viking metal band took the stage at the striking stone monument on September 7 last year, drawing a record-breaking crowd of more than 1,500 people to Iceland’s northernmost village. For a single weekend, Raufarhöfn was transformed, as visitors from across the country and the world filled the town to witness heavy metal echo through the otherworldly setting of the Arctic Henge.

The broadcast begins at 21:15 on Saturday, September 6, and includes both the full concert and a documentary filmed in the lead-up to the event. The film captures the atmosphere, preparation, and community effort that made the concert possible. The project received support from the regional development fund, which helped organizers and locals prepare to host the unprecedented influx of guests.

The Arctic Henge has since been hailed as Iceland’s answer to Red Rocks, an outdoor venue where nature and music combine in dramatic fashion. With clear skies and perfect weather on the night of the show, Skálmöld delivered a powerful set that cemented the Henge’s potential as a unique stage for future cultural events.

Organizers hope the RÚV broadcast will inspire more visitors to discover Raufarhöfn and the Arctic Henge, not only as a symbol of northern Iceland but now as one of the country’s most distinctive music venues.
