The municipalities of Norðurþing and Þingeyjarsveit hosted a celebratory reception this afternoon at the Maritime Museum in Húsavík to honor the owners and staff of Fish & Chips Lake Mývatn following the restaurant’s recent international success.
Fish & Chips Lake Mývatn recently won the title International Fish and Chips Operator of the Year at The National Fish and Chips Awards 2026, held at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London. The awards are presented by the National Federation of Fish Friers and are widely regarded as among the most prestigious recognitions in the world for fish-and-chips restaurants.
During the reception in Húsavík, the owners and employees of the restaurant were recognized for their achievement, with many guests attending to congratulate them. Among those present was Jón Páll Kristófersson from Ísfélagið, which operates the vessel Sólberg, the source of all the fish served at the restaurant. Representatives from the Federation of Icelandic Fishing Vessel Owners also attended the event.
The award represents a major milestone for the young business in the Mývatn area. Fish & Chips Lake Mývatn opened in 2022 and has quickly built a strong reputation among both locals and visitors.
The international award is given annually to the restaurant outside the United Kingdom judged to excel most in preparing the classic dish of fish and chips. The recognition highlights not only the skill and dedication of the team behind the restaurant but also the quality of Icelandic seafood.
Husavik.com once again congratulates the owners and staff of Fish & Chips Lake Mývatn on this memorable achievement.
