The first blue whale of the summer delighted passengers on a Gentle Giants tour in Skjálfandi Bay over the weekend, and was spotted again yesterday during a trip to Flatey island that a Húsavík.com reporter joined. The sight was truly majestic.
It was captain Sverrir Yngvi Karlsson who first spotted the whale during the weekend tour. When Húsavík.com attempted to reach him this morning, he had little time to talk, as another blue whale had just arrived, and excitement was high among the ten passengers aboard Amma Kibba, who at the time of writing are watching the pair dance together on the bay.
“I’m watching them right now as I speak to you, and you can just imagine the joy on board,” said Sverrir cheerfully when the reporter managed to catch him briefly on the phone.
Blue whales are the largest animals on Earth, so their arrival at the start of summer is always considered big news.
