Norðurþing declines to fund Police Drones

Norðurþing municipality has turned down a request to contribute funding for a new police drone project in Northeast Iceland. The initiative, proposed by Police Commissioner Páley Borgþórsdóttir, aims to test drones for law enforcement purposes across the region, Visir.is reports. Several municipalities have already agreed to take part financially, but Norðurþing confirmed it would not allocate money toward the scheme, with municipal council stating that law enforcement should be funded by the government.

The drone project is intended to strengthen police surveillance and response capacity in rural areas, though officials stress it remains a trial program.
