Húsavík Youth Film Festival to debut in February

A new international film festival dedicated to young filmmakers will make its debut in Húsavík next winter. The first Húsavík Youth Film Festival will take place on February 27–28, 2027, bringing together films and emerging filmmakers from Iceland and around the world.

The festival celebrates creativity, imagination and storytelling by the next generation of filmmakers. Submissions are accepted in five categories: Narrative Short Film, Documentary Short Film, Animation, Music Video and Student Production. The festival welcomes original work from young creators and aims to give emerging filmmakers an opportunity to have their work presented to an international audience.

The festival is hosted by the Exploration Museum in Húsavík, whose team has more than a decade of experience organizing international film festivals, screenings and cultural events. Selected films will be screened in Húsavík during the two-day festival, with awards presented for outstanding work across the five competition categories.
